Emergency Care

Don't Panic! We Can Handle Your Dental Emergency!

If you or a loved one crack a tooth, get a mouth laceration, knock out a tooth, have a brace wire come loose, experience a jaw fracture, or endure any sort of oral trauma, we're here to help.

The first step you must take during a dental emergency is to stay calm. Then call us! We can guide you through the appropriate measures to save your tooth, reduce swelling, and protect your mouth until you can get to our office.

If you've experienced a severe head trauma, whether or not it resulted in a dental injury, it's imperative to get checked out immediately. Call 911 or get to the hospital as quickly as possible.

For facial injuries that cause swelling, applying a cold compress to the side that received the blow. If you're experiencing pain, take an over-the-counter medicine such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Do not put any pain medication directly onto the surface of your mouth-you can burn your gum tissues.

Knocked Out Tooth

It happens all the time. Someone falls and hits their mouth on a hard surface, and out comes a tooth. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends the following guidelines for saving a knocked-out permanent tooth:

  • Rinse the tooth gently in cool water. Do not scrub, and do not use soap!
  • If possible, return tooth to its socket and hold it there with gauze or a wash cloth.
  • If you cannot reinsert the tooth, place it in a clean contain with cold milk or water.
  • Call your dentist immediately. The faster you get to the dentist, the better chance you have of saving your tooth!
